Title: The Rules
Post by: Rhetorica on Sep 08, 2025, 02:47 AM
Rule 1: Good Faith + Golden Rule

Assume others are posting in good faith.

Treat others how you want them to treat you.

Rule 2: Don't Post Things That Shouldn't Be On The Forum + Post Honestly

Avoid spam, porn, politics, sex, money, and unrelated personal conversations.

Don't plagiarize the work of others.

If you use generative AI for art, text, or code, please disclose it when making your post.

Rule 3: Don't Hijack Threads

Topics wander sometimes, and that's OK. But it's better if a thread contains what it says on the tin (i.e., the subject line.)

Rule 4: Avoid Importing Outside Disputes

Vendettas, libel, unrelated personal conversations, and long-standing grudges fall under this.

If you are concerned about the past of someone who has come to the forum, speak privately to an administrator.

Rule 5: Be A Good Bystander

Don't propagate warnings from unverified sources.

Don't enflame arguments.

Don't participate in derailed threads unless you're trying to get them back on track.

Rule 6: Be Mature

No insulting nicknames!

No demanding to "free the @!!!!" (gosh, zombie)

Rule 7: Advertise The Right Way

Get approval first!

Rule 8: Newbies Need Love Too

We were all newbies once. Eventually we will also all die. The community will need new blood. Support and sculpt them so we can survive long after we're gone.

Quote"Nobody's born smart, Billie. Y'know what the stupidest thing on Earth is? An infant."
"What ya got against babies, all of a sudden?"
  – Born Yesterday (1950)

Rule 9: Don't Get Us In Legal Trouble

If a product was made by a lone author, seek out consent before publishing license keys. Andrew Stone is currently the only person who has withheld consent... and we should really check up on him to see how he's doing.

Avoid doxxing, harassment, threats, etc.

Rule 10: Cooperate With Moderators

If a moderator warns you about something or punishes you, comply with the warning. Refusing a minor correction will quickly escalate into a more severe infraction.

Don't forum-shop moderators, either; we're all a hive mind and we all work together to make the site function. You'll just get the same answer.

Update (2025/09/10): I've expanded Rule 1 to explain what "Good Faith + Golden Rule" means.

I've also added "Post Honestly" as part of Rule 2: disclose whenever you use generative AI (for text, code, or art), and don't plagiarize content from other people. Suggested by @ptek.
